Please join us in welcoming our newest Community Engagement Coordinator, Muz Afzal.
Muz joins us from rural California and is eager to begin working on community engagement, sustainability and cultural inclusiveness in the SE Community. Muz began his path as a farmer and has been conducting community outreach since he was a child by working at various farmers markets throughout Northern California. In college he developed a passion for civic engagement and community service while studying at UC Irvine School of Humanities. He has spent a year campaigning and working with elected officials for the City of Sacramento and now has joined our SE Uplift family. Currently, Muz also works with Transition Projects by helping the unhoused/homeless population of Portland transition from living on the streets to safe and affordable housing.
Muz is super passionate about addressing barriers to racial and cultural inclusiveness in our communities so please do not hesitate to start a conversation with him regarding your experiences in SE Portland.
We are very excited to have Muz on board. If you meet him please introduce yourself and get to know our newest team member. Outside of work Muz enjoys hiking, cooking, gardening and trying (but failing according to him) at DIY projects. You can usually spot him exploring Portland’s thriving food culture at one of the various food carts in downtown Portland.
