How Neighborhood Associations Can Jump on the Pokemon GO Bandwagon
If you’re not already playing Pokemon GO yourself, you’ve no doubt heard about it in the news or from one of the games’ millions of enthusiasts. (Here is a pretty good overview of how the game works for the uninitiated.) Businesses are leveraging the trend to their benefit – and your neighborhood association can do the same! Pokemon GO offers neighborhood associations a great opportunity to playfully encourage community members to get involved and meet their neighbors. We don’t know how long this phenomenon will last, so we recommend acting fast!
1) Advertise Pokestops near your meeting space to encourage neighbors to attend while trying to #catchthemall.
2) Find the major Pokestops and Gyms in your neighborhood and put yard signs or flyers in those places advertising how to get involved in the neighborhood association.
3) Attract people to your neighborhood events, like National Night Out, by placing an item called a Lure at the space, which will attract Pokemon to your location for 30 minutes.
4) Host a special event, like a scavenger hunt combined with a neighborhood tour.
