With a continued increase in the frequency of hate and bias crimes, it remains important for organizations like SE Uplift to speak out against these acts that are counter to our values and in direct opposition to our vision of an inclusive and healthy community.
In the past month, there have been multiple occurrences of hateful acts in SE Portland, Portland, and the country. SE Uplift staff feel it is important to voice our concerns over these destructive actions against our community and to stand in solidarity with neighbors affected by hate. SE Uplift staff advocate for friendly neighborhoods which are safe, vital and inclusive.
Events over the past two months have been blatant and upsetting. Swastikas were painted in two places at Laurelhurst Park in March. In April, flyers targeting both Muslim and Jewish communities were circulated locally and beyond.
SE Uplift staff condemns these racist and hateful acts and is dedicated to supporting a diverse community of neighbors. Use this link to report crimes and vandalism in your neighborhood. You can also report hate crimes by contacting Portland United Against Hate.
