Please help us welcome SE Uplift’s new Community Outreach Coordinator, Mireaya Medina.
Mireaya brings an artist’s sensibility and a community organizer’s passion to the task of furthering SE Uplift’s mission and goals. And, as a resident of the Foster Powell Neighborhood, she’s excited to be working in and for her home turf.
Prior to joining us, Mireaya specialized in working with youth, and continues to hold a special place in her heart for our community’s children. Currently, she serves on the City of Portland’s Community Oversight Advisory Board (“COAB”) – which is the group of volunteers who monitor the implementation of the City of Portland’s settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. The agreement calls for reform to Portland Police Bureau (PPB) policies and training, particularly related to interactions with people who have or are perceived to have mental illness.
With years of community organizing experience under her belt, Mireaya is pleased to bring her passions and her heart to our work. And, as a happy bonus for us, she also has a lot of experience in video work, a, previously, unfilled capacity for us!
Look for Mireaya at your neighborhood cleanup – we’ve tossed her into the heart of neighborhood event management by giving her this task! Give her a warm SE Uplift welcome and thank her for joining us.
