SE Uplift would like to welcome Susan Gershwin as our new vice-chair. She was elected to the position at the February board of directors meeting and replaces Yashar Vasef who moved out of the SE Uplift area and resigned his position.
SE Uplift is sad to say goodbye to Yashar who represented the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood. However, we are happy to have the leadership of Susan as she moves from a director to officer position.
Susan is excited to work with the SE Uplift board in the new capacity. “I believe that the most important way I can have a sense of community and place is by contributing to it– learning about the issues impacting my neighbors and fellow community members. And then working to problem-solve.”
Susan works in project management with a background in adult education and training focused on refugee resettlement and international education. When asked about what makes a great board member, Susan shared the following. “I think key characteristics of a great board member are respect for everyone present and general professionalism and kindness, reliability and having follow-through on commitments, and a clear understanding of the role and mission of the organization one is serving.”
The SE Uplift board looks forward to the skills, experience, and commitment Susan brings to this position. Please join us in welcoming her.
